Vegan Hush Puppies are light, flaky, and golf-ball-shaped cornmeal batter that is soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. An Air Fryer is used to “fry” the hush puppies which gives them the crunchy exterior of typically deep-fried hush puppies without all the extra grease and guilt. In conclusion, the Vegan Hush Puppy recipe is the perfect side dish for any Southern meal, and it specifically pairs well with any grilled, fried, or baked seafood.

Allergen Friendly
Vegan Hush Puppies are an allergy-friendly side dish. These hush puppies are made using Gluten-Free Flour, Sourdough Starter, and Oat Milk.

King Arthur’s Gluten-Free Flour which is a 1:1 ratio for Organic, All Purpose Flour. This particular brand of Gluten-Free Flour consists of white rice flour, whole-grain brown rice, tapioca starch, and potato starch. This combination helps produce a smooth batter with no grittiness or strange aftertaste. There are other options for Gluten-Free Flour, but my favorite brands are definitely King Arthur’s Gluten-Free Flour and Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Flour.

In addition, Active Sourdough Starter is incorporated into the dough to help further reduce the gluten content. Overall, Sourdough products are healthier because fermented flour is more easily digestible than yeasted-dough recipes. Furthermore, Sourdough Starter also creates a moist, tender, and flaky texture on the interior of these hush puppies.

Finally, Oat Milk is used in lieu of Buttermilk or Whole Milk. Oat Milk is a dairy-free milk that has a similar consistency to Whole Milk. As the name suggests, Oat Milk has an oat flavor profile and produces an extra hearty taste in your recipes.

In conclusion, not only are Vegan Hush Puppies delicious, but they are also an allergen-friendly side dish or party appetizer for all.
