Furthermore, the base is usually a smooth sheet of chocolate, which can be dark, milk, white, or a combination. Once melted, the chocolate is spread onto a baking sheet and quickly sprinkled with a variety of holiday-themed toppings before it hardens. Finally, this versatile treat is delicious for enjoying and sharing during the most wonderful times of the year!

The toppings below are recommended toppings, but can also be swapped for your favorites. I’ve broken the ingredients up to adult and kid-friendly, but of course you can mix and match however you prefer.

Melting the Chocolate

Melting the chocolate can be done in one of two ways. The best way I’ve found is by creating a double-boiler on your stove. However, if you don’t have the time or patience to do this, you can definitely melt the chocolate in the microwave. I’ve included directions for both ways, below.

Chocolate for Holiday Bark

Double-Boiler Method

  1. First, fill a pot with 1 cup of water and place it over medium-heat. Bring it to a simmer.
  2. Next, place a heat-safe bowl, such as a glass bowl, on top of the pot of water.
  3. Then, add the high-quality chocolate into the bowl.
    • Note: Add 1 tbsp. of Coconut Oil (optional); this helps create a glossy color.
  4. Next, using a silicone spatula, stir the chocolate until it has melted.
  5. Finally, turn the stove off, remove the bowl of melted chocolate, and proceed with crafting the Holiday Chocolate Bark.

Microwave Method

  1. First, place the chocolate in a heat-safe bowl, such as a glass bowl.
  2. Next, place the bowl into the microwave.
  3. Then, microwave the chocolate for 30 seconds. Stir with a silicone spatula.
  4. Next, repeat step 3 until the chocolate has fully melted.
    • Note: It is best to work in time increments of 30 seconds, to ensure the chocolate does not burn.
  5. Finally, once the chocolate has melted, carefully remove it from the microwave, and proceed with the crafting of the Holiday Chocolate Bark.

Crafting the Holiday Chocolate Bark

  1. First, prepare a baking sheet with a silicone pad or parchment paper.
    • Note: If using parchment paper, spray the top with avocado or coconut oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Next, carefully pour the melted chocolate out of the bowl and onto the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Then, using a silicone spatula, gently spread the chocolate into an even layer.
  4. Next, sprinkle the toppings of your choice (nuts, candy, dried fruit, sprinkles, pretzels, etc). Lightly press the toppings into the chocolate by using a spatula or your hands.
  5. Finally, let the Holiday Chocolate Bark set at room temperature for 2-4 hours, or in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes.
