Instant Pot BBQ Beans

Instant Pot BBQ Beans are a staple side dish for any backyard gathering. Usually, BBQ Baked Beans are made by soaking dry beans overnight. Then, in the morning, you boil them before turning the heat down to stew low and slow for hours.

Instant Pot BBQ Beans Ingredients

With the use of an Instant Pot, this recipe will come together in under an hour and create tender, flavor-rich beans.

Pressure Cooking the Beans

  1. First, in an Instant Pot, add the rinsed beans, 8 cups of water, and Kinder’s seasoning.
  2. Next, lock the lid into place and cook for 25 minutes on HIGH pressure.
  3. Then, allow for normal venting (i.e. don’t rush the venting process) for 15 minutes before releasing the remaining pressure.
  4. Finally, drain and rinse the beans, and then set aside. Wipe out the Instant Pot insert and return it to the appliance base.

Combine the Beans, Water, and Kinder’s Seasoning

First, in an Instant Pot, add the rinsed beans, 8 cups of water, and Kinder’s seasoning.

Pressure Cook on HIGH

Next, lock the lid into place and cook for 25 minutes on HIGH pressure. Then, allow for normal venting (i.e. don’t rush the venting process) for 15 minutes before releasing the remaining pressure.

Drain and Rinse the Beans; Set Them Aside

Finally, drain and rinse the beans, and then set aside. Wipe out the Instant Pot insert and return it to the appliance base.

Sauteing the Onions and Garlic Powder

  1. First, turn the Instant Pot to the SAUTE setting.
  2. Next, when the pot is hot, lightly spray it with Avocado Cooking Oil Spray.
  3. Then, add the bacon and SAUTE for 4-5 minutes or until crispy; stirring occasionally.
  4. Next, remove the cooked bacon with a slotted spoon, and set it on a paper-towel-lined plate to cool.
  5. Then, add the onions and garlic powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the onions become translucent and start to soften.
    • Note: The bottom of your Instant Pot insert may be dark brown due to the cooking of the Bacon. It’s okay! It’ll all be stirred into the bean liquid in a moment.
  6. Finally, press the CANCEL button on the Instant Pot.

SAUTE the Bacon

First, turn the Instant Pot to the SAUTE setting. Next, when the pot is hot, lightly spray it with Avocado Cooking Oil Spray. Then, add the bacon and SAUTE for 4-5 minutes or until crispy; stirring occasionally.

Next, remove the cooked bacon with a slotted spoon, and set it on a paper-towel-lined plate to cool.

Add the Onions and Garlic Powder

Then, add the onions and garlic powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the onions become translucent and start to soften. Finally, press the CANCEL button on the Instant Pot.

  1. First, add the remaining water to the pot and use a spatula to scrape the brown bits off the bottom of the pot.
  2. Next, add the Bourbon and the remaining ingredients; stir to combine.
  3. Then, taste and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Next, add the cooked beans and bacon back to the pot and stir.
  5. Then, lock the lid into place and cook for 15 minutes on HIGH pressure.
  6. Next, release the pressure, remove the lid, and stir.
  7. Finally, serve immediately and enjoy!

Add the Remaining Water and Scrape the Brown Bits

First, add the remaining water to the pot and use a spatula to scrape the brown bits off the bottom of the pot.

Add the Bourbon and Remaining Ingredients

Add the Cooked Beans and Bacon

  • 3/4 c. Primal Palate Ketchup (or any unsweetened Ketchup)
  • 1/4 c. Organic Maple Syrup
  • 1/3 c. Dijon Mustard
  • 3 tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 3 tbsp. Molasses
  • 1/2 tsp. Liquid Smoke
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste
